I liked my 205 so much I bought a 405 estate (wanted a bigger car). It is getting really quite rusty under the rear, unlike my 205 which seem to be made of metal which doesn't rust!
Are all 405s getting rusty at the back? Is it a year specific thing? Everywhere I touch a big slab of paint comes off revealing flaky rusty metal, it would be a nightmare to clean it all up and it looks like the rear chassis rails are getting thin.
Do i look for a solid 405? Do i get a newer car? What puts me off a newer equivalent is stuff like climate control which I hate, all that button pressing and logos on LCD displays, give me old fashioned knobs to tweak. I prefer mechanical injection too, although I'm told the HDI is pretty reliable despite its high tech nature.
What should i do? What modern cars have proper fan buttons/knobs. Thanks.

I think you will find it hard to find a "GOOD" 405,same with an early 406 (preHDI) with the 1.9 turbo but If you can find a low mileage one thats been well looked after thats the car for you.If not get an HDI they are a good car, even with a few electrical faults.
