i have a 1990 205 with no power steering it is unduly stiff to turn lock to lock its been mentioned every time on mot but has passed each time i am unable to find any particular component causing the fault it would obviously not be cost efective to replace each part until i find the offending unit any one else come across this

cold be a couple of things, firstly the uj at the bottom of the columm could be seizing up, remove and check it by turning it, if its nice and free, then the rack itself could be seizing up

As Frank said the UJ is the best bet.The next thing to check would be the top strut bearings.
