That's a real 'piece of string' question. Much depends on the condition of the carbs, they exact year of the carbs, how they're deployed, the state of tune of the car, etc. I'd recommend seeking the advice of one of the various tuners that specialise in bike carb/TB conversions.

yeah, I wouldn't bother. I rebuild and restore big Yams, and R1 carbs aren't nice, even when still attached to bike. A pain to keep in sync, and the emulsion tubes and needles wear badly to the point that within 10k miles it can be difficult to set up the fuelling, and you get a big mid range flat spot as it overfuels when you yank the gas wide open. New Yamaha tubes and needles are £150 a set if you shop around, so I'd dread to think what custom made ones to allow running on a 205 would cost, and then to have to replace them regularly would be buttock-clenchingly expensive. They can be made to run well, and with very good emissions, but I'd agree there are more reliable ways to extract more power.

Yeah, let him go for it. I've no beef with that either way.
However, I know a wee bit about R1 carbs, especially the Mikunis, and why should I not share some of that seeing as the topic has arisen? I summarised most fairly - there IS and upside (can be set up to run well, low emissions), but there IS also a downside (they're not the nicest carbs, Gixxer carbs or bike TBs would be better), so how can a discussion touching on the pros and cons be out of line.
Let him go for it if he wants, and he's now armed with a smidge more info than he previously had.
