Hi everyone. I'm another new member to the club and looking forward to spending some more time looking around the site. I've just acquired a 1993 205 GR 1.4 petrol 3 weeks ago. She was very kangaroo like on the journey home and I put that down to hardly any fuel in the tank rather than my bad driving! All was well for a couple of days but then she refused to start. A local mechanic changed the spark plugs, leads, distributor cap and rotor arm and everything was fine for 1 week. Went to start her yesterday and nothing again. She's turning over but wont start. She's got plenty of fuel before anyone suggests that. Also the engine is a bit screechy from cold (when she was going) until 5-6 miles later when the noise would disappear. Any ideas Ps Battery is 6 weeks old

I'd do the basic checks - spark and fuel, and take the investigation from there.
The screeching noise might possibly be a worn or loose alternator belt, which may cause the battery to receive insufficient charge over time, but without the beastie in front of me that's just a guess. Try jump starting her, and if she springs to life then that could be the problem.
