Long story short, my friend's ex partner is coming on Saturday to collect his car and we can't get it to start. Its an 04 407 2.0 HDI 136 SE. It has been sitting idol for 6 months and only started once approx 2 months ago. Between yesterday and today we tried to tow start and jump start it. It just won't turn over and no clicking from the solenoid, we have got enough power in it to light up the dash lights brightly but still no response. Whats confusing me most of all is that the starter solenoid isn't even clicking any ideas???

Does the dash lights dim when u try 2 start car if this is the case I would sugest that you replace battery with a fully charged one and try again - the reason for this that if the 407 was parkrd with alarm on it will drain the battery, even to the point were there isnot enough to start the car even when try to push / tow start. I have had this trouble once with my cousins car.
GIve it a try and get back to me Karl

The SE doesn't have an alarm, unless an aftermarket one has been fitted. Only the 'Sport', which became the SE Lux in 2005, upwards had an alarm from the factory.
I would think a new battery is a sensible first thing to try. The electrics on these are multiplexed and if the various control units around the car (up to 27 of them, depending on the spec) don't sense the correct battery voltage then all the bumping and jumping in the world won't work. The voltage to the solenoid is controlled by a computer, not directly by your hand turning the key, and only when that computer is happy with the voltage will it allow the solenoid to receive some juice.
If that doesn't work, then you really need to get it hooked up to Planet for a further nosey.
Good luck.

It's a tidy machine you have there and I know you look after it properly. well worth paying up chum. Some cracking discounts to members, some good events throughout the year, a cracking club magazine, and access to the club registrars. The 07 series registrar is an especially handsome chap, so I've been told!
