205 gti 1.9 idle problem

hi guys ,

I'm finally getting around to sorting my 205 gti out theres not much wrong with it but the main issue im having is when the car is still the rev counter goes up and down a bit and wont settle and when your driving and break hard it will drop right down and cut out.

have any of you come across this problem, its a 1989 205 1.9 gti.

any help would be much appreciated.
