Hello folks, I am involved with a charity that aims to support orphans in Kenya, where many parents have died of Aids. See www.challengeafrica.org/ We are looking for a reliable and roadworthy 505 estate, or pick up, preferrably diesel, to be shipped out to Mombassa from where it will be driven approx 1000 miles to the villiage where it is needed. It will be used for local transportation of building materials. I am told that it is actually cheaper to do this than to buy one in Kenya, which seems crazy. However, this will allow more of the donated money to go to where it is needed and it can be easilly serviced locally. We dont need a prestine example, but it must be able to pass an MOT with minimal repairs. Anybody able to help please? Thanks, Donaldiesel

Sounds a bit odd. Peugeots aren't that expensive in Kenya as the locals all want Toyotas and Nissans, not Peugeots which are considered rubbish.
In addition the import duty on UK cars entering Kenya is enormous.

Hi, I also thaught it odd when the charity asked me. I have no experience of motoring in Kenya and just going on what they told me. Apparently they are currently having to pay the equivalent of £100 per day for vehicle hire, which is not a good use of the charity resources. I have since spoken to a dealer near Swindon who regularly ships old peugeots to African countries and seems to have a ready market. Good point about import tax on UK cars and we need to investigate further. Still in need of a reliable vehicle for this job.
Regards, Donaldiesel
