Guys,
Now that the engine is purring it's time to start thinking about the restoration project, so I need some advice, and I need to source original parts.
The first thing I need to know, I live in Kent, has anyone got experience of a good body repair shop, and resprayers in Kent that I could talk to. I think it's going to be a complete respray (I can't see any other way to get a good colour match).
Also I need to source rear wings (N/S and O/S) any suggestions as peugeot have none in stock and won't be getting anymore I guess.
Finally (For the moment) I need a complete set of New original trim.........
That's a start any help deeply appreciated.

Try Dean Hunter for the missing parts. They bought up a lorra redundant old Pug stock.
Failing that, good olde Fleabay.
Good luck.

as for the bodyshop, talk to people who you know that have had a respray recently, or some body work in general. dean hunter is a good sorce of old parts if our on about the lower parts of the rear quarter panels, then your outta luck there as you cant buy them anymore. the only option here is to find a couple of cars that have decent rear quarters on them and cut them off that car. which trim are you on about? ?

Piston, Frank,
Thank you for youre replies. I can see this isn't going to be as easy as restoring a Beetle......
So rear quarter panels will be a bit of an issue then, I was hoping to get new, or at a pinch Patent parts..... First bit of fun there then.
Not knowing anyone who has had a re-spray recently it makes it difficult Frank, to ask them how things went. (I do however take your point).
At least I've got a nice new pair of front wings, safe in the attic with side repeaters, hand built stainless steel replacement spare wheel cage, shiny set of re-furbed Alloys.
All I need now is :
a/ Two new Torsion bars, the car's sagging a bit and so I want to put new ones in to last for another 22 years, at correct height.
b/ All plastic exterior trim, and red inserts.. (That trim Frank)
c/ New Driving Lights (I think I've sourced originals of these)
D - Z all the bits that I notice as I'm stripping it down for re-spraying
I know there is going to be stacks if stuff I will need...... Peugeot locally think I'm trying to build a new 205 piece by piece....lol
I'll keep you posted on progress, if anyone hears about body parts (New or in excellent condition) let me know.
Cheers for now.

I have a challenge.....(The first of many, and if you'd like to join in I'll credit you in assisting the restore of our 205)
Peugeot no longer stock the plastic door moulding, if anyone knows of NEW originals (Grey for a series 1) both left and right please contact me, there's a cup of tea, or perhaps a beer in it !!!!

Frank,
Thank you for your reply, but I should have mentioned Auto5 is a fail, they don't have the Door trim, and they were more expensive that Peugeot for the rest of the trim go figure. Dean Hunter (I think thats the other one) also don't have all the door trim.
So I'm afraid we're gonna need a little bead of sweat if you want to play.
As it happens I have done some cleaning of my existing trim, adn I think with the new red inserts they will be fine.
But don't think you're done there will be plenty more challenges..

Also......
I've found a nice Classic Car restorer near Leeds Castle in Kent, who I think will get the job of the restoration.
The rear wings are no longed required as he can fabricate replacment sections, which he assures me will be seamlessly intergrated into the holes where the rust will be removed.
Also the Sills will be replaced, and then it's just a re-spray......simples.....oh and lots of numbers on a cheque, but I think it's going to be worth it to get the old girl back to showroom.
And since it's no longer classed as a "Performance Car" for insyrance I'm saving oodle on the insurance......it's about 60% less than last year because I can insure it as a "Classic car"
I'll keep you informed of the progress, but it might be sparradic so don't hold your breath waiting. Also I'll try and post some before and after pics when I have time.
Regards

Frank,
Don't dispair you've become useful again, I am only in this club, but will look into the other one you've mentioned (see you're useful)...........
I think I'm gonna need lots of parts, I have in mind another project too and that will be all hands to the pumps. I've found a pug 1.9Gti that's been laid up for 12 years, it's fully race kitted , fiberglass bonnet, stripped out, piper tuned etc etc etc but it hasn't turned a wheel for a great many days, so once the resto on out "Driver" pug is done I might tackle that one and then race it for the pride of all 205 owners and drivers.
Watch this space............

A few years ago, David Freeman near Swindon had a barn full of 205s & 505s. He was shipping the parts out to Africa. Don't know if he still deals in them, but he is listed in the Peugeotist yearbook for parts suppliers. Regards, Donaldiesel

Isn't there a 205 owners or 205GTi forum out there as well? Perhaps the boys on there might have some ideas, or even some spares.
