Frank, I looked at www.psooc.co.uk , they mentioned PugFest, so I'm aiming to be there with the car all done ! Guys thanks for your input will start posting Pics soon..... By the way, my local Pug dealer managed to source both door trims for me, that was nice of him.... he rang some of his Garage mates and they found them for me, that was pretty cool I think.

Ladies, Gents,
Well the time has come, I got the call from Classic Car restorers near Leeds Castle on Friday, and I drove the Pug to the Garage.
We went through all the issues it had again, and in four weeks time or so we should our Pug back, minus all the rusty bits, and plus a new paint job.
I'm still trying to source some original parts, but I've got pretty much everything I needed for the re-build.
The parts that are being repaired are.....
Both rear wheel arches - Cut out rust, re-plate Both front wings - Replace with Original new wings. sills - Cut past door post and replace 1/2 sills on both sides. Bonnet - cut out rust and replace section by right hinge Inner wing - Cut out rust and re- plate Boot - cut out rust and replace section bottom right.
There are minor rust spots around the window openings that will be sorted, and in fact EVERY bit of rust, corrosion in above below around and threatening are going to be sorted.
Take of EVERY single bit of the car, label it and store it ....
After that it's just a case of sanding down, undercoating, and painting it back to it's former silver glory. Then Waxoil'ing the whole underside, sills wings etc etc...
Finally replacing the old bits with new bits...
New front Bumper New Trim all round, with new red piping (couldn't get new door trim, but I've managed to clean it up to new) New boot trim and badges. New side repeaters New Front Driving lights New rear Fog light New window Rubbers. New bumper bracket kits (all new bars, bolts screws etc) New hinge pins all hinges. New Front Grill
That's about it but now the things I still need, and some questions. (I hope to get before the end of the resto)
1. Stainless Steel Exhaust system, can anyone recommend the best options. (I would like to keep it fairly standard, just like the idea of it lasting)
2. Torsion Bars - I can't find new originals, but I have seen some performance ones, which will be fine if only a little more expensive. QUESTION - are the 21mm or 23 ?
3. New front grill, and the rear quarter badges, can't fine them at the mo. QUESTION - I want new ones, anyone know of a source ?
4. Upgraded bushes - The NOT rubber ones... Poly ones, I know there not the standard, but sometimes upgrades are better, and I'm sure Pug would have put them on if they were available at the time.
5. - 1000. all the other bits that I then decide to change.
I have pics of the "Now" state and I'll post them soon, the Garages is going to take pic through the re-build so I'll post them too.
WATCH THIS SPACE.....

sounds exspensive lol,
the exhaust i had on all mine was a magnex. exspensive but very good
torsion bars i cant remember but just measure the originals with a vernier
id stick to original oe rubber bushes, far better then polybushes. not a crashy over bumps

Frank,
I can inform you that it IS expensive, BUT I think it's going to be worth it. I'll look at the Exhaust, thanks for that, Torsion bars I think are 21 mm so that's ok. Not sure about the bushes yet, but I'll take what you said into account......
Got a call from the restorers, and they asked if I'd like to come and have a look since they found a couple of extra issues, hmmmmmmmmmmm I thought this is going to get ugly.........
Well I wasn't disappointed it got ugly. The problem was that with all the trim on, it's really difficult to see where the "Metal worm" has been, once it's off you can see he's been in a lot more places than initially expected.
The OS front has lots less rust than the NS BUT that's the problem, where the rust should have been there were holes......BIG holes........ in fact the front head lights were held in by sheer determination only..... so that's added to the bill a re-build of the front of the car...... including some chassis strengthening...... Well so be it.
The rear of the car didn't disappoint either.... the bumper was holding on with it's fingernails. Both brackets rotted through, the mounting bracket on the left of the bumper nearly gone........ and the right one weirdly showed little corrosion..........
The NS rear panel at the seam of the sill was flapping in the wind once they'd removed all the rusty bits, so that was held on by rust.....................
Having said all that, it's not too bad really, just panel work and these guys are good at that....
We have decided to do all the panels, tackle ALL the rust, etc etc, so onwards we still go.............with the one proviso......... we are doing everything "Top side", there are some issues underneath the car, nothing major but just surface rust, and old parts that look bad. We are NOT going to tackle these this time round as it will be easy to do this separately when I have more cash. We are however going to rub down the rust, clean up the parts and wax oil the whole lot to ensure it doesn't get worse.
I just noticed the liberal use of "We" what I mean is "They" .....
I have pictures, of before, and week 1 but don't have time to post them at the mo, once I find a spare 30Min's I'll go through them and post the most descriptive.
Oh and I also received some more goodies.
1. New 1.9 Gti badges for the read quarter both sides (Don't ask how much they cost GULP!!, thank god for the CPUK 10% discount) 2. Front Grill, back front and logo.... OUCH again.....
waiting for the Rear bumper fixing kit and expecting another OUCH !!
That's about it for now, but I'll update again next week or when anything significant happens, plus I'll add pics.
Once it's done, I will have some secondhand spares so keep watching. Also if there is something you want, I might know where to get it, please feel free to ask.....
Good luck all.

Update........
All the Welding has been done, and the car is now back to being mostly metal, instead of mostly rust, and air....... obviously this will have an impact on the power, since the car is going to be approximatly it's original weight, but it will be safer to drive.
The prep for painting is going to start in a week or so, as the guy doing my car is off for a week, so I've taken the opportunity to get the rear beam re-built. This is being sent to IM Axles, as I've seen good reports about them, and had a long chat with them about it and they seem to know what there doing.
I know I haven't posted any pics yet, but I do have loads, and so does the Garage, I want to get them all together so that I can show a "Before", "The problem", "The solution" , "The results" pictures, and I only have the before, and results pics, so I need to get the Prob and Solution ones to do this.
We have found a number of issues as we've gone on, but the restorers, "Classic Car Services" (Maidstone) have come up trumps every time, so far.
Their service to date is remarkable. The latest example of their work is ..... During the removal of the Rear Beam, the center brace was rusted and un movable so they cut it off, and then built a new one. (No cost to me). Also the rear box on the exhaust needed removal to get to the beam, they noticed the back pipe was corroded so they cut it off, and replaced it with a new one. (No cost). When I spoke to them they just said "Well it needed doing and it only took 20 mins".
I mentioned the rear bumper fixing kit last time, that cost about £50 and had all the nuts bolts washers fixings etc. I'm still waiting for 1 GTI badge as Peugeot were out of stock.
Cheapest parts yet are the Front brake dust shields (The metal fan shaped duberies behind the brake) £2.89 each, although the rear ones were £16.00 each............
Good luck all and I'll update again soon. I PROMISE pictures soon !
