The original electric fuel pump on my 404 Cabriolet died,It was 47yrs old!! I`ve fitted a modern motor sport type in-line one which works fine.I would prefer the old original back on to keep it all "Peugeot".Can anyone recommend a firm that could rebuild an old motor like this. Attachments:

That's not the original pump, that is a BOSCH pump and the original was an AEG-Kugelfischer. The pump in the photo is like that fitted to many 1980s cars with Bosch injection. You would be best off buying one from a Volvo dealer or Bosch wholesaler, than trying to rebuild it.

Thanks for the reply Mike,I always thought it was the original. So that`s why the fuel inlet on that pump is a different diameter than the fuel pipe on the chassis.I have a Bosch pump but when I tested the fuel pressure it was over 5bar.My Kugelfischer man advises 2.5 - 3 bar , this motor sport one I`ve fitted runs at about 3.5bar so I think I`ll leave it on.I still would like every thing to look 1964 and run at less pressure. What do you think?

Mike...Do you know the Peugeot part number of the original pump? or where can I find 404 parts catalog on-line to view or down load? Many thanks.

Here is a shot of mine in situ: It looks like heck but it still works. I could scan the page from the fuel injetion manual which has a photo of the entire thing, dismounted, if you like!

Thanks for your help Mike. This is the one I fitted,as you can see its not 1964 Peugeot but it works fine.I found a Bosch part number on that old one but my parts man says its no longer listed.Something tells me I`m never going to find the proper Peugeot unit.I will keep this one on until I find a more suitable pump that runs at 2.5bar. Hi, I just copied the code from imageshack and pasted it into my post, it came out that size. About the original fuel pump, it seems they were problematic compared to the later Bosch rotary units, for example needing new carbon brushes every 20,000 miles. I had a 404 C Injection once whose AEG pump had an hourglass-shaped commutator from brush wear! Peuget's own parts manual shows the Bosch replacement only, from the early 504 Injections. The AEG pumps seem all right so long as you change the brushes regularly. It produced between 1.1 and 1.7 bar, so lower than the Bosch units, but higher fuel pressure seems not to harm anything.

having problems with the fuel pressure - tried to fit a 14# Holly pump but the pressure dropped to 10, would not run. Tried a Pierburg pump but it's 5 bar and car runs rich. What is the part numcer for the Bosch pump you used at 3.5 bar and how does the car run. Please respond to Nfal@aol.com

The Bosch pump I removed is part number 0580464005 but I think you will find it is no longer available. I have fitted a Walbro motor sport pump, part number TCP015C.The line pressure is 3.0 - 3.5 bar and the car starts, idles perfectly and runs very well.Never had a problem all year.
