Hi All I have just bought a 405x4 estate in reasonable condition and low mileage. I was wondering how many are left now? Does anyone know?

That is a very rare model!!! I`ve been with Peugeot`s for 40yrs and never seen one! I had a 405 Mi16x4 back in 1994 which was a great car,still a few of those around.You must have the only one in the UK??

Would be nice to think it's the only one, but I doubt it. I've also got an Mi16x4 for every day use and a 405 Lemans about to come out for the summer. I think I've got the 405 bug - is there any cure?? ;D

I love 405's, owned several, but never seen on of these in the flesh.
Can't be many around, simply cos there were never many to start with. Far less even than the Mi16x4.

I will post some pics of them when I find out how to!! I saw a few when I was a Peugeot master tech back in the 80's but not since though. Also, does anyone know how to find owner history of cars. My Mi came with a strange brass disc key fob and has previously had some sort of equipment fitted in the boot. Ex police maybe??

The brass disc and the evidence of kit having been installed in boot makes it pretty likely it was dibble. Back in the day the olde Dibble radios were huge and went in the boot, and only a remote (but still substantial) unit went on/in the dash.
The brass disc with either the cars callsign or reg number was standard Dibble kit, and these days has been replaced with an electronic plastic fob that also doubles as a device to allow the car to be filled up with fuel on Dibble premises.

That brings back memories,I had an Mi16x4 18years ago.I had ECU re-chipped,altered the intake with a K&N filter,wide Speedlines with Yokahama`s,comp front brakes, (I was a boy racer in those days) That car would stick to the road like glue,the road holding and traction was amazing thanks to the 4x4 and the Citroen active ride rear suspension.In those days I did trips to Germany regularly,it would top 150mph and cruse all day at 120.Got to be one of the most underrated cars of the time.Peugeot killed that lovely Mi16 twin cam when they fitted them with a catalytic etc,the non cat Mi16 where much quicker.

I agree with you about the later Mi's. My Lemans is a lovely car, but because it has the 2.0 cast iron block and a cat it feels sluggish until you get over about 4000 rpm and then it takes off. I'm working on her at the moment putting new valve stem oil seals in and a light skim on the head to remove corrosion, and then I shall use her through the hotter days in the summer as she is the only car I have with air con.

I paid the DVLA £5.00 and they have sent me the ownership history of her. It seems that she was originally registered to Peugeot Talbot in November 1991 and then registered to Wiltshire Police Authority from September 1992 to September 1996. Cool eh?
