My 74 304S cabriolet always takes a lot of churning on the starter before it fires. My old one was the same. Is this usual with these? I've checked plugs, points, timing etc and all is ok. Off to France in it for ten days next tuesday so want it running well!

I have a memory of Peugeot Warranty (back in the 70`s) sending us ignition coils with a ballast resistor (I think thats the right word) fitted on them, this was for bad starting. Also I found Peugeot`s did not like certain makes of plugs and NGK solved all the problems.See if Dean Hunter has any of these coils or knows about them.

It should start up straight away. Mine does anyway. Maybe try removing the idle jets from the sides of the carb and spray carb cleaner / brake cleaner through the carb and jets. Also remove the drain plug (13mm I think) from the bottom of the carb to allow water and dirt to drain out.
It may also be a fuel pressure problem. Crank the engine with the fuel pipe off the carb to check for a decent supply.
