Newbie- speedo not working

Hiya,

I have a 1989 Pug 205 XS and im having problems with my speedo.... was wondering if anyone could help me with suggestions.

What its doing (or should i say NOT doing!!) is the mileage clock isn't working properly i can do 10miles and it reads 0.4miles. The trip mileage clock also doesn't work properly but will reset when i press the button!
Finally the speedo works but clicks up and down so for example i will be doing 50mph and it will read 30mph until it clicks up to 50mph, its very frustrating as it means i have to crawl through speed cameras!

I would be very greatfull if anyone has any suggestions as this one is really bugging me!

I `m sure you will need a replacement speedo clock.The best and cheapest option is to find a complete instrument cluster from a breakers.As long as its identical to look at speedo/rev-counter/fuel gauge etc all in the same place it will fit.Easy job,a few screws to remove the surround and a few more and the whole assembly comes out,just remember the speedo cable!

yea i was worried it may be the clocks, in my area there are no breakers with any kind of 205! wish it was the speedo cable as i can get one of those from anywhere!! d**n!! I will have to keep looking on ebay and ringing the breakers! Cheers for your help

i think you could have a worn shank on the speedo cable, or the plastic gearing in the sppedo housing could be worn

Try doing a google search for speedo repairs. You can get most thinks fixed these days. I had a cluster repaired about 12 months ago, costs about £100.00 tho

Great!! Will look on good ole google and see what i can do! Spare parts for it are a right pain to find even on good old ebay! Cheers
