Autobox - there's no set replacement fluid interval, but at 8 years old you'd be wise to change it. You'd need to take it to a proper transmission specialist as a pump is required to get it all out the torque converter. Just pulling the plug will only drain about 2/3 of it out. If you can not find concrete evidence of the timing belt and water pump being replaced in the last 5 years, get it done now. Otherwise, sounds like a tasty low mileage find! Got any pics? Oh, and might I also plug the virtues of paying to become a full member, discounts, technical help, rallies and meets throughout the season, etc

Hi Piston broke thank you for the reply. I will arrange belt and pump replacement asap. The auto fluid then is a set amount with no means for the owner to top up if required.
Pics will follow soon.

there is a level plug, but it is a sealed unit in effect. it has an oil mile counter built into the gearbox ecu, and it will till u went it wants replacing lol, when it does get replaced it has to go onto a pps machine to have the counters in the ecu reset.

Hi Frank ah that's what that counter does. Thank you - I wasn't sure what it was counting down. At the moment there are a good number of them lit, so I shall leave the autobox well alone. I presume when it does need changing, the reset machine is a Pegeot dealer/specialist job?

the counter on the clocks is for the vehicle servicing, ie oil change etc

I am in the same situation regarding air bag and auto box warning lights, I'm planning to change a couple of solenoids in the gearbox, along with a fluid change and an ecu reset at the dealers. I never wanted a Peugeot, the mrs thought she knew better. How can such a monumental thingy up go on the market I am wondering. Shift patterns are ludicrous. Also, the attempt at eliminating lift-off upshift while providing more engine braking really makes the car look like its being driven by an ape at times. It cant be driven like a conventional auto in my opinion. I'm going to stop now as I could go on and on and on....... A poor attempt by Peugeot at showing off with a terrible electronic gearbox

philipo yeah thanks for the input Anyway I have contacted the dealer and it appears there may be two reasons. One - the gearbox is munched and needs replacing. Possible but I will suggest unlikely on 23000 miles Two- the two electro valves on the box ecu need changing. Anyway it is off to the dealer for diagnostics and repair. It is still under the purchase warranty so I'm not unduly worried.

Quick update, still got the car and the fault is still there (skint). I have isolated the circumstances which lead to the fault condition however. Limp mode only activates if trying to cruise at a steady speed. It does not occur while accelerating or decelerating. I have now adopted a new driving style to prevent the problem and its working well. Although this isnt a fix, somebody with intense knowledge of vehicle electronics may well know what is going on now I have isolated the circumstances
