Evening Fellas, Just thought I would join up here on account of my latest acquisition.
I'm David, 17, and from just outside of oxford.
1991 205 XL 1.1 litre (carburated). Having owned and renovated an E28 BMW 520i for 4 years I had my doubts about french machinery, but I think I can safely say, what a smashing bit of kit it is!
Okay, The sunroof is siliconed up and I need a good mile or so of dual carriageway before it'll hit 70, but I'm suitably impressed with the go-kart like handling and its miserly appetite for fuel.
I swapped the car for a different BMW e28, a 528i (not the one pictured: I'll be buried in that!) that I had bought as a second project, and got up and running and MOT'd in the summer after two years slog. I never really went looking for the peugeot, it sort of found me. The intention was, just to sell the 528i, but in the end, I'll be having to commute 100 miles a week as of july, and I cant justify the 520's fuel bills for that. My current insurance arrangements also dont let me build up NCB on the 520.
The 205's in extremely good nick for her age. Not a spot of rust, Paint is bright red as opposed to pink, and the previos owner really lifted the looks with the fitting of GTI "pepperpot" alloys, red carpets, sports seats, and leather steering wheel. I also stuck on a nicer gearknob fom a scrap 605 (now when did you last see one of them...), but more on that later...
Without further a do, heres some pictures.
No plans for her as yet, except perhaps a 1.4 litre engine conversion when I can be bothered. Nothing wrong at all with the current motor for now though, it shall stay put.
But, my sunroof is silicone'd up. If anyone has a replacement, or a seal kit, please do get in touch.
My interior light doesnt come on when I open the drivers door, if anyone has a switch kicking around, that'd be fantastic.
Also, the boot is getting damp. The seals are all in good condition, the water appears to be coming from one of the drain holes in the bottom corner of the bootlid. any thoughts?
I'd like to add early-style rear light clusters (with the orange lenses), and orange front indicators. Will they fit, and anyone got any spares?
There's also a 605 (not a bad car, but having looked, I think it must have popped its HG )with MINT black leather in the local breakers, How easy would it be to stick the front thrones into my 205....?
Thanks in advance, I look forward to getting to know y'all.
Dave.
