Hi Jack, good to see more young blood in the classic car scene mate , welcome along I remember getting my first motor aged 13: my brother and I had scrimped our paper round money for the thing, spent a good three months fixing her up. 1986 BMW 520i, lovely bit of kit (see my recent post in here). My old man has been keeping its wheels turning for the last four years I've owned it, and by some streak of luck we managed to get my 17-year old self onto the insurance. Still got it although dont use it overly much because it sure likes to drink. I'd be keen to see some piccies of the cars you mention (saw a 505 today actually, my god they must be rare now), especially the XJ40. Then again I must admit I'm a right sucker for a luxo-barge Anyway, passed my test about a month ago, I've managed to source a very clean 205 1.1 carb to use as a runaround (swapped it for another 5 series BMW I bought two years ago and then renovated). Doesnt go anywhere fast, but not a spot of rust on it and it sips fuel. I can fit oodles of junk in the back, its really not bad for what it is save for perhaps the electrics, which I can only describe as "a little french", shall we say. Pepperpot alloys, steering wheel, carpets, and seats out of a GTI set the looks off nicely, too. Had my post up for a little while now, and I hope I'm wrong but the '05 series section of the forum at least comes across as a little quiet. I cant seem to find another forum that isnt GTi orientated, though. Do give me a shout if you're ever around the oxford area old chum Dave
