It's a Peugeot P4, "Vehicles tout terrain". 504 engine, 604 transmission, modified Merc G-Wagen chassis, intended to satisy demand from the domestic military market, in much the same way the Austin Gypsy tried over here 20 years earlier. Built in France by Pug from 1978 and production transferred to Panhard in 1982, where a further 6000 were made. A civilian P4 was offered, but was a very poor seller.
That one has non-standard bodywork, and with the green paint I would suggest it's a specialist military variant rather than a civvy market model, though where it was built that way or later modified by the French military is anyone's guess. The unkind might also suggest it has 6 reverse gears...

That's one of the versions of the P4. Here's a few more... The "standard" body was the bread and butter version, but the end users often modified them for their own needs as gun carriers, ambulances, even light assault vehicles in the manner of the old British Pink Panther Landies with virtually no body at all. The later LAV was modified by the military from the p4 but in full blown version looks more like that off road Lamborghini job they did in the 80's. I don't think these variants actually came from Peugeot themselves. Are there any over here?
