hello all, my name is john, i live in france and this is my winter beater, 1988 2.5 GTD 505 i've only got it a week ago, so will soon be soon enough asking questions about upp'ing the power as i know these are pretty unbustable engines, i plan on keeping the interior and exterior as it left the factory but maybe a slight lowering and some nice wheels, 505's are now expensive here so important to keep its originality, the engine.... are there any gains to be had... my name ahh yes before anyone says owt... its the name i use all over as i am a VW man having owed over 100 over the last 15 years :roll: the 505 will become my daily driver to take abit of the weight off my Polo :lol: 1986 Polo 2 1.6 Breadvan, slightly modified, i also own 2 passats, another Polo 2 and a 1983 LT Truck so hello all, look forward to seeing some of your rides, i got some cracking old french pics i'll put up as i learn my way about.. my old rides - www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1458182186580.57261.1594166563&type=1&l=d533a031aesome fresh pics of the beast.. have some pics of an abandoned yard near me... kind regards john

I don't know how long you've lived in France John, but contrary to the UK where you can pretty much do anything on a car as long as it still passes its MOT, it is completely forbidden to do such things in Frogland, especially uprating the power. As Ze Germans would day: c'est interdit!
To do so will not only make you car illegal on the road (unless you opt for the long and twisty road of French homologation of your modified vehicle with dearly DRIRE - bonne chance!), but you will also invalidate your insurance. Should you inform your insurer of your modification(s) as a matter of sheer honesty, you would quickly find yourself without insurance too! Then it's entirely up to you, your conscience, your responsability and your wallet ability should anything happen. Adding the fact that Képis are out there in numbers these days makes for a quick decision...
Your pictures show what looks like a top condition 505, I'd leave it the way it was manufactured. Isn't 110bhp sufficient enough?
