Seems the double roller bearings are interference fit on both the drum and shaft. How do I insert the new ones without damaging them? Do I need special tools?

All you need is a hydraulic press if you want to avoid damage.Remove "tin lid cap" undo hub nut and the drum should come off by hand,if it wont it may be the brake shoe stopping it? try and release the brake auto adjuster through a wheel bolt hole?if its stuck on the shaft a hammer or better still a slide hammer will be needed. On the bench, Remove bearing circlip, press out bearing, reverse to refit, easy job.
