my 205 xs has got a very leaky carb, the manifold is covered in petrol that has leaked out of it, it looks like its coming out of the throttle shaft Anyone know any way that i can stop this leak? can the shaft be replaced? i can upload a pic if this helps?!

This is not good and there are many possible causes. A badly worn throttle shaft is possible, although it is more likely for air to be sucked in rather than fuel leak out. I suggest you first check the float chamber shut-off needle valve for worn seating and correct float height (see the manual for details). This is most important as a worn needle valve can be forced off its seating by the pressure of the fuel pump and cause flooding into the manifold. Likewise, correct fuel level in the float chamber is important - too high and a syphon can be started causing a constant trickle of fuel into the carb and manifold. Another thing to check is that the choke flap is not stuck partially closed as this can also cause flooding. If you have an automatic choke, the flap should open fully within a few minutes when the engine is warm. Have a garage sort it if necessary, because the car is unsafe to drive like this. It only needs the driver in front to throw a lighted f*g end out the window..... Besides, petrol is too expensive to pour onto the road.
