Hello everyone! I have a problem with my 205 CJ (running the 1.4 single point injection TU engine) where there is a gear change problem where 2nd and 4th gear wont stay in. I select the gear and it will pop out after 1-5 seconds as I'm driving along. Even with the engine off or at very low speeds, the gears keep popping out, with no crunching noise. 1,3,5,R gears all stay in fine. I thought that by replacing the 3 gear linkage rods with nice new ones, this might solve the problem, but I am unsure of how to remove the old rods. Please can someone give me advice? Thanks

The rods just "pull off" as they have plastic sockets that snap onto metal balls.Have the new ones ready and make sure they are the correct ones as you will need help with a lever and end up braking the old rods. While your at it make sure the pivot on the sub frame where the linkage "turns left" is in good condition and the selector lever on the gear box is not loose. Unless your linkage is falling to bits I doubt if this is the cause of the problem.I have a feeling its internal gear box problems.
