Hello to all. I was wondering if the problem that I have with my year 1991 3.0 SR, could be some very typical one and so easy to fix? The problem: after resting the winter in the parking lot I went to start it maybe a month ago, there was no go, 'cos battery was dead. Well I took off the battery and charged it full, and the next day it started instantly. I let the engine idle for 10 minutes, to see there was no leakages. At one point of that 10 min I noticed a little smoke or water vapor coming (for a minute or so), from behind the engine, from the left side, near the back wall of the engine bay. I first thought it indeed was smoke, but soon let myself believe it was only vapor from melting snow or ice.. Now I know it really was smoke. I tried to satrt it again yesterday, but the battery was dead again.. Tried to charge it, no go, it won't chrarge anymore.. Bought a new battery.. installed it, but when trying to connect the + cable, it gives massive lightning, and when forcing it in place then a hissing sound starts coming from there back of the engine and I think there was some smoke too visible.. I kept it connected for only two seconds or so. So, there's a shortcut smwhr there. Where exactly? It appeared by itself during the winter Yes the winter is a bit harsh here in the Karelia, in the eastern Finnland, but cold weather should not cause shortcuts. Or does it. Anyway, any good guesses in which component the shortcut now is? Thanx.

Update: the smoke is coming from the alternator whereabouts. The car is already towed to the repair shop..
