Guys, As you may know I have a 205 (F reg) recently restored. I though I would share with you the fact that depending on the ade of your 205 you might be able to insure it as a Classic car, we did. The effect of insuring it as a Classic car was that the cost went down from £400 using 70% NCB, to about £190, and that's with no account of NCB (Which is not used on this Classic car insurance policy). The reason for the big drop is that the 1.9Gti was deemed to be a "Performance car" by regular insurers so attracted a premium for this, a classic car is just a classic car. I guess advertising who I got the insurance through here would be a bit cheeky, but if you want to know then PM me. Anyway if this helps someone save a bit of money, and you feel moved to be grateful, please donate something to your local Hospice........ Kind regards all

That looks a very nice car and a job well done and I hope it IS well insured. Just a thought, most classic car policies have lots of rules and restrictions compared with normal policies, have you read the "small print"?.Like, its not your daily driver and you must have another car for that, maximum annual mileage, must be stored in a secure garage at night, agreed valuation,Etc Etc.

Thanks Oldpug, I can tell you it took a fair bit of work getting it looking like that. Mostly "Hand in pocket" type manual labour on my part, but worth it.
You make a good point about Classic car insurance, but that's the same with any insurance "Read the small print"
Yep we needed to send photo's, record the milage, estimate how many miles we might do, and keep it in a locked garage over night (After 22:00 or 10PM) when at home, I also listed ALL the repairs, fixes etc etc on the form, which helped with the valuation but that's about it. It's not really a big deal, if you want to insure your car correctly, and for a lot less than "Generic" insurance would cost.
When I insured with one of the well known "Generic" insurers they would only insure for about £1000, with the Classic Car insurance I have a guaranteed valuation of what it's actualy worth, and as a matter of fact this is the third year with the same insurers, every year I have been able to increase the valuation based on the improvments, repairs etc as well as the market value for a replacement. I do perhaps send them more evidence than they request, and I include advertisments for what I believe are cars in a simular state, which seems to help them decide.
I think that if you want the right insurance for your Pride and Joy, then for a few hours a year taking photo's, and filing out the forms is well worth the effort. Put it into perspective, how much time and money have you spend looking after it ?
Well if that's helped anyone Good.
I even managed to take the car out a couple of weeks back... you know that warm dry summer (DAY) we had.... Perhaps next summer I'll take it out for two days, subject to global warming assisting me with two good days...

I agree when you have spent 100`s of hours and £1000`s its essential to have it properly insured with a classic car insurance specialist.I have a Towergate Cherished Car policy @ £207.They agreed MY valuation of £17000,fully insured while in winter storage,And it includes RAC recovery in the UK & Europe. All the useall do`s and dont`s.To my utter embarrassment she broke down at the start of a rally in Manchester!!! one telephone call and we were all taken back to my home in Berkshire. That would have cost me £600?? Also my pride and joy was not left by the side of the road for long and quickly back safe under lock and key.
