This is getting really annoying!... I have owned three 205 diesels for around ten years .. so have learned a bit about their faults. The intermittent non start fault seems to effect a lot of 205 diesels (posts here and on other forums) but no one has come up with a cure as yet. What happens is; you turn the key to start and there is a click from the glovebox, the dials and warning lights go to zero, and the starter fails to operate. The battery is fully charged, the earth connections to engine and body are spotless, and the car has been running normally for weeks before. In frustration you keep turning the key from run to start and after a dozen trys the starter operates and the engine starts. All is then well for some time and then it happens again. This is a regular occurance with my STDT and now is happening with my wife's Sceptre. I now carry a jump lead and get a good start by connecting the solenoid directly to the battery, thus by passing whatever is causing the problem. My STDT was fitted with an immobiliser but the transponder was lost by the previous owner. Not sure if the Sceptre had an immobiliser as it does not have the STDTs red immobiliser warning light. If anyone has found a cure for this fault please let me know. I intend to rewire the starter solenoid directly from the ign switch, and hope that will be a permanent fix. Oh! our oldest 205 Trio diesel has never suffered from this problem, and was never fitted with an immobiliser.

Have been trying to understand technical French on the 'Planete 205' site. Seems starting faults happens to French 205s as well! The problem seems likely to be in the pre-heater box, which is mounted under the front of the car and subject to mud & rain etc. Might give the terminals a bit of a clean up to see if it fixes the problem.

I have occasionally experienced exactly as you describe on my 305 diesel, which has similar engine. In each case the starter worked after cleaning the connector to the solenoid. This terminal is exposed to damp air, salt etc blasting through the radiator, so gets a hard time.
