My local Peugeot main dealers in Sheffield charged well over £2k for a gearbox repair which had a repeat fauilt within 3 days of the car being returned. The car was bought 2nd hand a few months ago - working well when bought but a piece of paper found in car after purchase showed they had done a similar expensive job on the gear box for the previous owner, who refused to pay the last part of the bill - so clearly they've history of not sorting this car properly which they were not honest about. Drove the car in for the repair and was called by them when the gearbox was in bits, was shown the bits and told that to put it back together with absolutely no guarantee it would work cost £900, cost of taking it to bits £600 and we'd need to have the car taken away in bits, undriveable - only option they would guarantee was the £2K+ repair and this has not sorted - no faith in car and especially none in Peugeot main dealers!

What you need to do is ring Peugeot customer services, and vent abit of anger at them. They will get the car sorted. Especially after payying that bill and the car is not sorted. If you do not know the phone number, the dealer has to give you it. And they will give you it.

It's a used car, well out of manufacturers warranty, so it's beyond Peugeots Customer Care powers or remit. Theres no warranty payment the importer can withold from the dealer, simply no stick for them to wield. There's definitely a lesson here about doing your homework when buying a used car. Your comments re Peugeot Dealers are misguided. Bristol Street Motors near me have a superb service department and Perrys, about the same distance in the other direction have an equally brilliant sales team and I'm on first name terms with their top parts man, Justin, so to judge dozens of different companies by the way one individual firm treated you is a bit ridiculous. You've several options; 1) Sue the AA or RAC who inspected the car prior to you handing over many thousands of pounds. 2) try and have a sensible discussion with the dealer. It might be an idea to try and be the bigger person and not come on the Internet slagging them off and naming them if you expect them to be nice to you in return. Also, if this mess does end up in court then such public comments can have a negative impact on the outcome, so I'd keep their bane out if the public domain for now. 3) reject the car. The AA or RACs legal services will advise you here. This may be your best bet. It's a little known fact that the dealer is liable for any fault on a used car within 6 months of purchase. The lawful presumption is that the fault was either present or developing at the time of sale and the lawful onus is on them to PROVE it was not, so they MUST repair the car FOC or else refund you. See www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ The dealer will know this without a shadow of a doubt but will rely on you not knowing. 4) learn the lessons for next time, expect a higher likelihood of grief with an older used car and less likelyhood of support from the manufacturer or importer, check out the dealers reputation on the Internet, have the vehicle professionally inspected beforehand, and be sure to very carefully both read and understand any warranty policy before you sign it. Good luck.

It doesnt matter if it was out of warranty or not, Peugeot customer care will want to know of unhappy customers, who have been charged loads of cash and been left unhappy with the car still not repaired!

They won't care. They've not bought a new Peugeot, they've not bought an approved used Peugeot, it's completely beyond their remit or responsibility. Any business the dealer conducts outside of the franchise agreement is the dealers companies problem. I've got an inside man and that what he is telling me.

Ok, i have a customer who has brought a 2004 807 off ebay, andon the way home her cambelt snapped destroying the engine. Now it has only done 80k, the cambelt wasnt due untill 100k, but as we all know there is a problem with cambelts snapping early we told her to ring peugeot and complain. She didnt buy it from peugeot, it is 8 years old, and they couldve easily told her where to go. But instead of an unhappy customer, they took her car to the nearest dealer, and put her a new engine in. At a cost of 5 grand!!! who says Peugeot doesnt care!!!!!

Where have you been Frank?? I agree,Peugeot are changing. In the old days if the car was out of warranty,a stamp missing in the service book, etc etc you have had it and you were on your own.
Also, how about coil springs.?? After replacing loads on different models and charging my customers. Ive found out that Peugeot will consider replacing a broken spring FOC up to ten years or 100K. The way I see it Peugeot are in massive trouble and are trying all sorts to win back customers.
