Can anyone tell me what the warning light that is immediately left of the glow plug warning light is? I had a couple of occasions when this light came on whilst trying to start the car , there was nothing but a click. Yesterday it flickered on and off whilst driving but did not come on again. 1988 205 XLD Many thanks

You will need to check the drivers manual to be certain. I am guessing that if you don't recognise the icon it is one of the less obvious ones like 'water in fuel'. The icon for this is supposed to look like a fuel filter housing. This can flicker intermittently as you describe if water starts to accumulate in the filter. If this is the case you will need to drain the fuel filter housing. If the light comes on, it is probably time to replace the filter also.
Another light that can flicker for a while before coming on full is 'low oil level' The icon is a dipstick with a drip on the end. Likewise 'low coolant level' which looks like a red pan with water in. Urgent attention is needed in both cases.
In the '05' days Peugeot used to issue a separate drivers manual for diesel models to be read in conjunction with the main drivers manual. So you need two booklets.

Its as Donaldiesel says - It is the "Water in fuel light". You will need to drain the fuel filter housing, and if you don't know when it was last done its probably time to replace the fuel filter anyway.
