I have a 1988 205 xld with 130k miles - can i fit a turbo from another XU engine - if so is it straight forward bolt on or is there more to take into consideration. I am not looking for a racer I would just like to pep the performance up a bit

It will have to be from an XUD engine. This is not a simple bolt on goody - it must be considered as a complete system. The diesel injection pump is different, so you need to replace that also, plus the air intake ducting. Early turbo models had no intercooler, later ones did. Again, the fuel settings will be different. Is there room for an intercooler on 205? Exhaust down pipe may also be different, so check this. If your existing diesel is a bit tired then turbo charging is likely to finish it off. I think you may be better off with a complete working engine from a turbo car.
Lastly, you will pep the performance quite considerably, so will also need to uprate the brakes and tyres and tell your insurance company.
Good luck
