Hi, I own a Peugeot 405 GL, 1991.
Basically I have a problem with my radiator fans. I am trying to find out the nature of the sensors at the back of the thermostat head. All of mine have (they are three) are single-pole contacts and I know one of them definitely gives the water/coolant temperature reading on the dashboard gauge. I've tried to do some research on this and I read somewhere else that another contact feeds the STOP and temperature warning light, and the third feeds the bitron control unit (mine is under the steering column, which in turn is supposed to control the fans). Sometime back I changed my engine and it seems the re-connection of these wires became problematic. I managed to get the temperature gauge one working, but I am not able to get the fans working according to the temperature. I would really like to get this done because I want to restore my air-con system and I know that the fans are vital for this. At the moment I jury-rigged a switch into the system with which I control the fans manually, but it requires constant supervision, and I am only human and can forget.
So, does anyone know whether all the contacts are single- or double pole? I have also heard that some 405s have a thermistor screwed into the radiator. I don't remember ever having anything like that before the engine change. I do however have 3 double pole plugs hanging around in my engine area (I am sure one of them is for the air-con compressor).
I also read this somewhere else:
"1, Brown 2 pin connection I believe is the bitron sensor thermistor measuring 1.78 K ohms across both pins at ambient temp approx 20 deg c
2, Blue 1 pin connection measuring 2.23k ohms between pin connection and earth at approx 20 deg c
3, Green 1 pin connection measuring open circuit to earth."
Does that mean that I have two wrong sensors screwed in, since this description speaks of two 2-pin connectors?
I hope someone can help and clear up the confusion for me.
