Started a little work on the 104 today. The previous owner said he thought a wheel bearing was going, and sure enough one on the rear is worn out. The Haynes manual makes out its going to be a complete trauma and special Peugeot tools are needed. Twaddle, its just a tapered twin wheel bearing set within the hub. Anyway this set was changed in design in 1980 so it dashed my chances of going down GSF and buying a Citroen Visa one. The bearings are only the same in the old Citroen LNA on pre-1980 104s as the Samba came along post this change.
Will keep you updated on the old girl.

Like aways what looks like a nice little motor has a few problems! The ebay listing said the rear wheel bearing was suspect, and it was so put a new one in today, thats to Dean's ever comprehensive supply of parts. Got the opportunity for a good poke around, as am concerned at what seems to be lack of braking. GL 104's dont have servos so I guess the lack of brake force is down to that, as everything is in good order. Looks like maintenance has been top priorty in its life, as the front has new hub nuts meaning the dics have been off at some point, and they look quite thick so they may be newish, certainly the rear drums had 94 stamped on them!
Rust.. oh dear its got some. The main floor and front chasis rails are fine. The o/s front jacking point is in need of some weld. I think the seal on that side has been replaced at some point, certainly the wings have. I jacked it up and made a hole, it looked moist and rusty just there anyway so better find it now than MOT time. On the other side its all ok, but needs the tracking done and a ball joint rubber cup.
On the rear I'll need to remove the fuel tank as a small hole is in the boot floor. The rear has new set of shocks, and all the brake pipes metal and rubber are in excellent order.
I think the first stage is to get my father's welding skills on the two places and put on patches, then whilst the fuel tank is still removed, waxoyl everything to death! Remove the door cards and do those including the boot and engine bay. I'm not to fussy about a polished engine as Id rather it didnt rust around those dodgy areas like bulk head, battery, and engine mounts, so I also like mild oil leaks to help prevent !!
I really cant see anything else a miss, the front wings may have to come off for some attention to the tops of the inners, but its not critical at the moment.

Welding done, and the other rear wheel bearing replaced. Drives very nice now. Done around 400 miles without a hitch!
