Hi all
I kinda think I know the answer to this one.
My Peugeot 306 1999 2.0L HDI has given up and it's all my own fault.
Firstly, I'll be honest. I have been running on bio for a while
Secondly, I'll admit, it has been running rough for about 6months now, like it's missing on 1 cylinder.
1
When it first ran rough, I pulled the connectors to the injectors one by one and it seemed that number 3 cylinder had little effect. So I bought a replacement injector that made no difference.
2
I then took out all the injectors and put them in a sonic cleaner, this made no difference....so I carried on using it wondering what to do. All the time, my brother saying...take the head off!
3
On the way to work, it stopped....started again, then stopped etc.. Recovery time.
4
So I bought a compression tester, cylinder 1= 430, 2=430, 3=0, 4=0. Ah, that's why it stopped then. Also noticed number 3 & 4 glow plugs had the ends missing!
5
So I'll take the head off then? What a job that looks to be. I can turn my hand to this sort of this (although it took a few weekends to put a new gearbox in her), but bloody hell! I can't get to anything! tried following Haynes book of lies but realise that mostly everything has to come off.
a) how do you get to the timing cover bolts?
b) how do you get to the rear head bolts? Do I have to take the complete manifold off (answers yes I think)
c) how on earth do I get that monstrosity of an item off of the LH (LH from sitting in car), of the engine? all the bolts undo but it just will not slide off of the pins.
So, my question is. Shall I bother or give in whilst I still have cash in my wallet?
I wanted this car to last another 6 months, currently saving for a replacement in Jan/Feb and I use the motorbike otherwise. I was going to run it up to then and sell for a minimal amount (can't be worth more than £400 surely). It's done 150,000 miles and does not owe me anything. Taking the head off seems a hell of a job and when I do, I'm guessing I'll find some serious bunging up or even damage (due to the bio or even my running it rough for so long). Or worse, the bottom end needs work.
Thoughts?
