Not normal. Sounds like the timing chain top guide has broken.

If its one of those "BMW" engines the timing chains are serious bad news,loads of problems.I would have a word with a Peugeot Dealer as it could be a known fault warranty job.Mind you don't build your hopes up.
If no luck find yourself a small Peugeot Indy and get it sorted pronto before the chain fails and the engine goes pop, and that will definitely spoil your Christmas
