Hi All, I noticed a while back that my engine number is different to my chassis number on my 2.0L cabriolet. I understand that engine numbers and chaiss numbers are supposed to match, so it sounds like a replacement engine has been fitted to my car at some time. I'm interested to know if I can date the year of manufacture of the engine now fitted. It would be nice to know if this was more recent than the car itself or perhaps otherwise. The engine number is X1997797X. My chassis number is 504B121741833. If thgere is anybody in the club who can de-cipher these numbers for me, that would be great. p.s. I got through the MOT fine. The handbrake was a bit dodgy and borderline, but the MoT tester knows my peugeot habits pretty well and let me off this!

Nope, engine and chassis numbers are two different things. Your car chassis number identifies the model, date of manufacture and serial number.
The engine number is on a little plate near the oil filter, but it's quite difficult to see.
If you want to know if your engine is the original one, you can contact the Peugeot Museum with your numbers for verification.

I've tried contating the Peugeot museum for chassis number date confirmation but have received no reply, can anyone confirm the correct address to contact and whether there is any charge for the service. I tried contacting in French and English, by post and e-mail, still no reply, would the club be willing to contact on my behalf? I have two 304's, both in poor condition, only one roadworthy at the moment but proof of date of manufacture could help with emissions test and possibly car tax exemption. There's a Peugeot website which lists the general dates of production but not the exact date for a specific chassis number. I would be very grateful for any suggestions.

There is no charge for asking the Museum information, but they are known to be extremelly slow to reply if at all.
I think I already replied to you in a post about your 304, but send me the details of your cars and I'll phone them.

I'm sorry I seem to have hijacked someone else's thread but I would be really really grateful if you would contact the museum for me. Ideally I need some sort of proof to get age related number plates, which will also help with the emissions test for the MOT.
I need confirmation of the date of manufacture for two Peugeot 304 cabriolets;
chassis number 304 BO2 3513552 & 304 BO2 3712056, but particularly for the first one. Any sort of paperwork I could take to the DVLA would be ideal
Thankyou very much in advance for your help
Mike

I really appreciate that, thanks.
I've just noticed that being a total muppet I've mis-typed one of the chassis numbers, the more important first one. it should be
BO2 3513252

This opens a box showing any details that the members has elected to make public. Sometimes this includes an e-mail address which you can use. If not then click on send personal message and you will be able to contact that member directly off the board. They will see a prompt at the top of the page when they log in, just like the one you could see because I sent this to you as a PM too!
