Hello.
I've just bought an old '97 R reg 106 1.6 XL Auto (my first Peugeot), but without a handbook or note of the security code for the (I presume original) Clarion radio-cassette. (The trade seller doesn't have it either).
The Clarion display just shows something like "1 2 3 4 ... " which I'm guessing means it wants me to enter the security code? Is there any (ideally free/cheap/easy) way I can find out the code, please? And how do I enter it if I do?
Also, is there anywhere I can download a copy of the handbook?
Thanks for any help or guidance you can offer (and perhaps any tips or gotcha-warnings for a first time owner?).

The fact that your nice little Peugeot is 17 years old may be a problem finding what you want?? The "Peugeot way" for the code is to take the radio model and serial numbers(on the back of the unit) together with the car vin number to a Main Dealer and they will be able to come up with a code, for a fee of course,poss`£25??. Your display 1..2..3..4 bothers me? it should read "code in" when switched on?? if it has numbers displayed makes me think someone has been "playing"?? three wrong codes and the radio locks up and will not accept any code, leave the battery disconnected over night, reconnect and see if code comes up. Perhaps though it may be better for you to find a radio specialist workshop who can unlock and recode it all in one go.
As for a hand book, just "Google"?? Ebay, here, other Peugeot clubs.

Thanks for the advice, Oldpug. I'm nervous about screwing up the immobiliser if I disconnect the battery (since I don't have any instructions for it at all, either, other than punching in the 4-digit code). Without a handbook or workshop manual I'm not sure how to get access to the back of the radio anyway. And I'm afraid I can't afford £25(+) to unlock the radio, whether it's a main dealer or radio specialist workshop. Rats. I've now googled for handbooks, but can never seem to pin down whether they're for the right model/year (often the dates claimed as applicable seem to straddle at least two model changes). I was hoping for a (free!) downloadable version, so that at least I can make sure it's the right one for my car. But no luck so far. I found (from here) a link to mypeugeot-uk.peugeot.com which hosts official handbooks, but (as you feared) mine is too old to merit any archives. I think I'm out of luck. At least with the radio off, I can clearly hear all the squeaks and rattles .
