Hello, I have just purchased a set of front shocks for my gti 306 part numbers 5208 N2 and 5208 N3 N/S and O/S respectively. It states on the shock bodies 'gas pressure,do not open'. I am assuming that these are low pressure gas charged twin tube design. when I compress the rod into N3 the rod self extends slowly as one would expect but with N2 the rod does not extend, even after several cycles. I have noticed that when extended by hand the rod in N2 actually falls back into the shock body albeit slowly and not all the way in. Both shocks seem to have equal resistance to compression by hand and also rebound when pulled back out by hand. Concerned, I contacted the dealer where purchased and have been told all is ok with the units. I even got the dealership to get me a different N2, returning the first and the second one behaves as the first. Personally I have never seen a gas charged shock not self extend, even slowly. Does anyone know what is going on with these units and why is the behaviour of the two different. After fitting them with assurances from the dealer, I feel something is not quite right with the N/S ie even on relatively smooth surface I can feel a slight high frequency vibration (annoying) and the N/s feels a bit more 'crashy' that the O/S. Am I displaying my own unique way of going mad or is there something wrong here. All other suspension components are also new and car tracks true Thank you for reading
