Hi everyone, not sure if someone's already posted this. I only need a small piece of information concerning my timing belt. I live far away from any official service station and have to rely on random mechanics to carry out repairs/replacements. My car is a 405 GL, 1991 and I need to replace the timing belt. Unfortunately I can't locate the old one which was in there before the current one. All I need to know is how many teeth it has. When I was going to purchase one I enquired from a spare parts dealer and the first question I was asked was whether it was a petrol or diesel. It's a petrol. Then I was asked whether it had 113 or 114 teeth. That I could not answer. Does anyone have those specs for this particular 405? 1991 GL, saloon, petrol. Thanks very much

This dilemma used to come up regularly late 80`s early 90`s on all the 8v XU`s,so much so I used to stock both. If its a 1991 I would say for sure its 114.Apparently it's down to the type of tensioner.Early sprung loaded tensioner used a 113 belt, later manual eccentric tensioner used a 114 belt.

Thanks for your help, oldpug. I really wanted to avoid having to take out the belt just for the purpose I counting the teeth...I have some upcoming engine work, piston ring replacement and valve seals and wanted to replace the belt at the same time. Thanks again. I was half afraid if never get an answer to my question - many of the threads here seem to be older than five years! Good to see I can still get some answers, because I have more issues lined up!

Thanks for your help, oldpug. I was half afraid if never get an answer to my question - many of the threads here seem to be older than five years! Good to see I can still get some answers, because I have more issues lined up! Feel free to ask more questions and I will see what I can do.I started working with Peugeot`s in 1969 and retired in 2009,so it may be a case of can I remember? I still have a few Peugeot odds and ends kicking around and have many "Old Peugeot" contacts. I note your comment about the lack of activity here. It's a shame, this forum used to be very busy years ago but for some reason Peugeot owners have drifted away.

Thanks for your offer. Do you want me to create a new thread for that? It's about a new radiator I bought.

citizenk, you won't believe this.I`ve just been rummaging in my workshop draws and found a Peugeot 114 timing belt. Its(was)brand new and still in the Lemfoerder box.Must have been there since I shut my business down. Your welcome to it,I`ll never use it now.Something tells me you're no where near Berkshire,so PM me your address and I will mail it to you.
