Hello all,
My car is a 1994 106 Mardi Gras with a 1.1 petrol naturally aspirated engine. It is the original unit and has now done in excess of 266K. It still runs well, and I service it regularly. Not surprisingly, it does burn a little oil now.
My main query is about the MOT emissions test. Last time, it barely scraped through. My mechanic, who is also a friend, advised that this is a common issue with high mileage Peugeouts. The next MOT is not due until April 2017, but I would like to prepare myself.
I am aware there are various options, including changing the lamba sensor on the cat, engine overhaul, or engine replacement with a lower mileage/reconditioned half or full unit. My mechanic friend has advised that an overhaul would be the most expensive option, but maybe this could be done over time if the high mileage engine became a "spare" unit ?
Also, I have seen adverts in a classic vehicle magazine, for an Automotive Restore Product additive for high mileage engines. Does this work or is it "too good to be true" ? I note it is quite expensive.
I much prefer older cars to the modern computerised contraptions, and my 106 has served me very well since 2009. I would like to keep her running, along with ongoing maintenance and restoration.
Best Regards John P.
