Hi
Id like some advice please. I have a 406 estate GLX HDI (110) diesel, its got coming up to 137000 on the clock and I have owned it for approximately 12 years and am the second owner. If I say so myself I really have looked this car. Ive never had children, the car is very clean and tidy inside, all the electrics still work and the only people that use the car is me to potter about town and go to work and back. I do about 4000 miles a year in it. This month alone I've had an O/S/F coil spring, O/S/F top bearing and O/S/F top mount that was because a cat run out on me and I slammed my brakes on and I think the spring snapped. Then last week I had an O/S/F hub and the drive shaft refitted and greased.
In August last year I had a new fly wheel, clutch kit, external cylinder and brake cylinder, costing me £700, also in 2016 it also had N/S/F & O/S/F drop links, O/S/F ball joint & arm, O/S/F & N/S/F top strut mounts. I have had other stuff done to and have a fab garage that puts up with me and explains everything to me before he does the work.
Anyway my partner feels that its time that I had a sporty new car and with 4 months left on the MOT thought it was the right time to start looking around. We have seen a car that we want at Fords of Winsford and initially they offered me £150.00 for the Peugeot without seeing it. The sales man knew that I wasn't happy with this price after all that id spent on it so told me to take it up to him and when I drove to Fords of Winsford the next day and he saw it, he admitted it was in fab condition inside and out for its age and offered me £300 instead.
So here’s my problem - I still don't know whether to let the car go or not, or sorn it off the road, buy a decent cover for it and leave it to sit on at the bottom of my drive for the next 15 years to see if becomes worth anything. I know that id have to do all the usual, start it up every month, perhaps take it around the block for a spin, leave the hand brake off etc but that's no hassle. Now me and ‘him-in-doors’ are at war about it, he thinks that im wasting my time that, it will never become a classic car and in years to come, ill just end up having it towed away.
Can I have some independent advice and views please ?? Is it worth saving ? or just I just take the £300 ?
Warm Regards Bev
