I'm probably being over-cautious, but has anyone encountered problems with the threaded spigot onto which the oil filter cartridge is screwed? I ask because I think the thread on mine might be a bit 'marginal' at the engine end and I was therefore wondering whether this component can be unscrewed from the block and a new one fitted in its place.
I imagine there's probably a procedure for dealing with a stripped thread that too far gone for a die to restore, but I've no idea what it is.
I thank you in anticipation of your learned observations!

Why not check with Dean Hunter at Peugeot Parts to see if he has a new threaded spigot?

According to the Peugeot parts book the threaded bit is not sold separately? which surprises me,as I know you can remove it.Anyway I bet Dean Hunter has loads of second hand ones. Now then, are you sure you have the correct oil filter? If my memory is correct the 404/504/505 screw on filter has a different thread to 304/204 filters.

You're absolutely right to doubt the filter; it turns out the Purflux items I bought, while listed in the manufacturer's catalogue as being suitable for the car aren't in fact the right ones. The thread on the spigot isn't perfect at the engine end but when I tried a different model of Purflux filter, it fitted securely. I suppose the moral of the story is not to assume parts supplied are correct just because 'the book' says they are.
A result, all things considered, the only trouble is that I bought six LS 498C filters thinking they'd be handy to have on the shelf when in fact they're no use to me - time for an ebay listing...

Just advertise them for 404/504 petrol engines.
