Hello Everyone... I am proud to own a classic 304S having bought my first classic car 3 months ago. I have done lots of work to improve the running of the car. Yet, I have made a mistake. I attempted not just to change the oil, but to drop the sump in a bid to check evidence of wear of tear - the previous owner had the car for 2 years but couldnt confirm the last time the car had an oil change so I feel the motive to check was a good one. However, it seems impossible to drop the sump. It has wings that connect to lower engine mounts and one bolt is so tucked away that it seems the exhaust needs to be dropped in order to get to the bolt. With the main sump screws already off and the sump slightly open, the gasket is damaged so I have to get this job done. I'm looking for guidance from the experts. Does the exhaust have to come off for the sump to come out or is there something I'm missing? Again, this is not a round sump - it has side flaps connecting the sump to other areas of the frame. What I thought was a simple morning job is now day 3 - and a lesson learnt. I'd welcome any guidance. Paul.

Hi and welcome. Now you have got me thinking? it must be 30 - 40 years since I did this job. Am I right that this image is the same as your car. I`m sure the sump pan does come off. Those "wings" go to, I think?, small engine steady mounds that will have to be unbolted from the subframe. You may have to drop the front exhaust pipe? As with everything on these old Peugeot`s, there are lots of awkward nuts and bolts all over the place. Peugeot did not think of mechanics in those days. Attachments:
