Currently getting a 505 GTI up and running. There seems to be an issue when accelerating mainly from a standstill. When you get to approx 1800 rpm the engine looses power as if it is about to stall then regains itself again with power. It is mainly when you change from 1st to 2nd gear or in 2nd when pulling from low revs. It almost seems to be like a fuel cut off which immediately comes back. Or could it be the vacuum timing advance on the distributor not adjusting correctly. Any ideas where to start looking but we have already put the following new parts on.
Bosch Fuel Pump (although it is very noisy) Fuel filter Set of plugs New Rotor arm and distributor cap

I take it your 505 has the 2.2 Renault engine. I used to have a 505 GTI 20 years ago, brilliant car, never ever went wrong, so I haven't got any ideas for you. All I can say is I think your on the right track when mention vacuum advance. I would go round looking for air leaks, make sure the distributor vac pipe is good, that sort of thing. Fit the new items you have suggested, generally clean and service the engine. Is the fuel in the tank new? as you probably know old fuel goes off. also put some Forte injector cleaner in the tank. If you get your spare parts from Dean Hunter at www.peugeotparts.co.uk have a chat with him. He is a Peugeot boffin, I`m sure he will give you some good advice. He also will have all the parts you want and mail them to you.

Hi, Yes it is the 2.2. Today we checked the fuel filter and pump even though they are both new. We think the fuel, although it is new has picked up a fair amount of grit and sludge which was not helping. The engine runs better now as we changed out the filter and cleaned out the pump as best we could. We still think there is a bit of tuning required as the power does seem bit sluggish as lumpy, so we will give it a shot of injector cleaner, we also plan to fill the tank with jerry cans and let it sit overnight and not fill the tank at a petrol station as that may cause more gunk in the tank to start moving. If the engine continues to improve I think it just needs setting up properly as I think we have pretty good vacuum, however possibly the dizzy advance may have a pin hole in it, but after the filter change it was much better, the fuel pump is very noisy however. We have got parts from Dean Hunter already so if we need bits we will give him a shout.
