Well, we did it, train and bike to Avignon, cycle and camp to Narbonne, to pick up a pickup. Great run home, plenty of fettling to get it going properly along the way. Bought a canopy in St Nazaire from a lovely old french lady...
1900km by the time we'd made it home. A proper adventure. A 1968 ex EDF U8 truck, now a bit of mot prep, and then headlong into the DVLA thing. Many tech questions to come....Can pics be posted here? W & P

Brief update! We've been very busy, MOT achieved, then DVLA with massive, prompt help from Ian Kirkwood of this parish, all sorted. Now registered in UK on nice age related plate. Pat has slaved away long into the winter nights, in an open barn, steadily ticking off things from the list of jobs. He passed his test at the beginning of the month and we have sorted out insurance so he's been driving it! Very exciting......2 trips to college, 2 trips to our trimmer mate for canopy improvements and repairs, various other runs out...there is still much to do, he is well on with the 'drop in' camper conversion kit, having done leisure battery install with split charge system etc.
He was to be doing his first long solo journey today, home Hereford (college), then Farnham, home tomorrow.... but investigation of the tappetty noise has revealed 3 broken outer valve springs, at least 2 of which have broken inners too....bugger....immediate plans abandonned, we are now on the hunt for replacements. There seems to be a bewildering array of part numbers, which all seem to be for the same basic engine (ours is an XC7), most of which are out of stock, or in stock but not 8 off! Any wise words, or leads to spares, possibly even a complete spare head, and wisdom on interchangeability between models would be good. Lookout google, here we come! W
