92 205 1.6 Auto Idling Issue

Hey all,

I have a low mileage J registered 205 1.6 Auto with a high idling issue.

When in park or neutral it's idling at 1500-1700rpm even when the engine is warm. If you wait 5-10mins it does slowly drop to the 1100rpm you'd expect.

Any idea what the issue could be?

Its most likely the stepper motor ( or idle air control valve ) I presume you have the 1.6 XU multi point injection ( some have mono injection ). Study the image, it will be located next to the throttle flap. Remove multi plug, two small screws and out it comes. Give it a good clean with carb` cleaner and the housing it fits in. It all gets gummed up.
Put it all back together and give the car a run, it will take a while to settle itself.
Hopefully that will do the trick.
