I bought a 504 Cab last year that's been in a chicken shed for 18 years. I've completed the bodywork and the engine appeared to be running OK however it keeps losing power and then grinding to a halt.
If it does fire up again then it's rev only to about 3000rpm and when I slip the clutch to pull away it'll just die on me.
I'm now out of my depth and need help.
Advice?
Know a local enthusiast in the Settle / Skipton / Clitheroe / Burnley area?
Thanks to anyone for their thoughts.

Hi, if its the 2.0 inj, then it may be a problem with injection system. Assume you have checked the timing.
John Fox is based in Settle and is an expert on 504's or try Nottingham Diesel if its the injection system.
I am intrigued how you manged to restore the body if it had been abandoned for 18yrs, mines running but the body work is falling apart and panels are very rare.

Thanks
I've heard the name John Fox mentioned a couple of times - I'll check him out.
To be honest the bodywork was in pretty good nic anyway, the main job has been pulling out some accident damage.

Hi Paul, I have had exactly the same problems, as have a few other owners I have met.
Three things appeared to have solved it for me:
Firstly I had the Kugelfischer pump serviced by : Nottingham Diesel Services 01159475894 Hendon Rise , Nottingham , Nottinghamshire NG3 3AN Cost about £350 but worth every penny, and drastically improved performance.
Secondly I had the wiring loom looked at, as the car appeared to be running everything off one cable, meaning a severe deficiency when everything was on.
Thirdly I run her on Premium Unleaded with Millers VSP additive.
A combination of all three has resulted in a car that no longer stalls as soon as it's hot, even now summer is here, and in sticky London traffic. I don't think John Fox is doing 504's anymore, as I spoke to him last year, as he did the original restoration on mine in 1981!
Hope this helps, or please feel free to email me on luke(symbol for at)barnes-walker.com
Cheers
