Hi, Can anybody out there help, There is a noise comming from my 206 when the clutch is up and in neu ???tral. There is a slight engine noise when in gear as well. I've just had a dealer service on my 206 XS. The report has come back saying the clutch release bearing has gone and needs a new clutch. I've taken the car to a local garage and they say it's the gearbox and the clutch needs replacing too (£750!!!). I'd like to know whether it is the clutch or the gearbox or if any one else has similar problems/remedies, especially as the car is 6 years old and only done 43K miles???

What happens when the clutch is dipped in neutral? if the noise goes away i would say release bearing. A new clutch will cost £75+vat for parts (GSF price). If it is the gearbox head down to the breakers yard, there will be a 206 gearbox for you I'm sure for a lot less money.
