gear knobs again!!!!

I finally managed to get my gear knob off!! but im not sure it was the original one that was on as the leather gaiter was loose and was wondering if i bought a new gear knob would there be something on this to hold the gaiter in place?

The gaiter should attach at the bottom, around the lip where the gear linkage ends. The gear stick should have a collar like bit towards the top to keep the top of the gaiter in place.
