I have an interesting problem that possible lies with the engine management system. When I am accelerating there seems to be a flat spot around the 2000rpm mark where the engine develops a miss. After 2600rpm it runs fine. Occasionally it develops an injector knock sounding like an old transit that is cured by turning the engine off and restarting it after a few seconds. There is no smoke when this happens. Any ideas?

Hi kevin, the flat spot you're getting is almost certainly the E.G.R valve, it's mounted on the front of the inlet air box. A new one's the only answer i'm afraid. The diesel rattle is a seperate fault, proberbly caused by a faulty advance solenoid, mounted on the injection pump. There have been a few software mod's to try and cure it but i've not had much luck with them.
Regards Andy

any idea on the costs involved?
It has developed another interesting fault, a vibration when accellerating as if there is an injector off but no miss-fire, could there be a problem with a TDC Sensor. I will put some injector cleaner through anyway as the italian de-coke shifted some cra er carbon build up!
cheers
Kevin
