Hi,
Im a newbie to this forum and have a bit of a problem (with my phase 2 405). The passenger electric window goes down a little then slows a lot and sometimes stops and wont go all the way. Closing the window also takes a couple of tries. The window doesnt get used that much but its becoming a bit of a problem.
Is this a common fault, and does anyone have any ideas what maybe causing it? Could it just be poor connections/corrossion or am i likely to need a new motor? I am loathe to take the door apart unless absolutely necessary as the trim is not a great fit.
Any advice would be much appreciated
Cheers
Greg

Your problem is very indicative of an old motor about to pack in. You'd better start looking for a replacement unit...

Assuming you've had the car a while and the motor was okay then it does sound like its on it way out - although if a new window's been fitted and one of the runners is ever so slightly moved that can cause headaches. Unfortunately the more times you have to use the motor to close the window, the hotter it gets, and the more wear it receives. Funnily enough a couple of weeks ago I was attempting to sort an identical problem with my Mrs's car. I was amazed at how hot the motor gets when its 'fighting' with the window - I couldn't hold it for over an hour later! And this was when it was outside the car, normally it's obviously 'boxed-in' with no air getting to it.

PS - it was a Volkswagen, so don't assume that you've got a common problem.

Thanks guys,
This is a recent problem, however a few years ago a new doorskin was fitted under insurance (badly positioned gatepost!) and the interior on that door has never been as good a fit as it originally was.
Any helpful hints for getting into the window motor would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Yes, be prepared for a right bugger on! I doubt very much that you'll need to remove the motor, and sometimes a little light grease (vaseline etc) lubricates the runners/rubbers etc. just enough to ease the windows passage.
