HI. This is post 1 of many I expect! Simple question, where is the fuel pump on the 2.1 TD. Does anyone know what sort I am likely to have (Bosch or Lucas cav)?I am hoping to carry out a 'controlled' experiment with the diesel cooking oil idea, and the fuel pump could put an end to it straight away! Thanks Ad

It will be located on the left hand side of the engine, driven by the cambelt.

I found it this afternoon. Worked from the head back actually, found the solid hoses. It looks liek a stupid crappy Lucas Cav! So.. Next question.. Can you get bosch pumps for this engine?

Yes, but the conversion costs more than the car is worth. I know from experience that the Bosch pumps are fine, but the word is that as little as 2 litres of SVO added to a tank can have the CAV heading for the hills.

I know, thats why I am running away from the idea faster than a man with a plan thats going to blow up in his face! This is one of the main reasons I got a diesel. I might continue to investigate and look for another vehicle to use!
I am more interested in what you mean about conversion? In the copious amounts of research I have done, I have been led to believe that the fuel pumps are practically interchangeable!? Infact several places have stated that the use of the Lucas cav and Bosch pumps vary within model groups. Even down to the same engine having different pumps!
As far as I can see, the difference is in the way the fuel is pressurized then distributed. In theory I shuld be able to get a bosch pump (which is made for the car/engine) and just connect up the hoses and electrics!?
Is this not the case?

Now I can understand why my Lucs/CAV pump packed up about 18months ago. Lucky my scrap car Had a bosch on it. I dunno how interchangable stuff on the 605 is, but on my 205 it was a fairly simple swap job for the injection guy, except that the different lines to the injectors were needed
