I have a 2001 1.8 man petrol 406 and the engine manament light came on today and stayed on. The car runs fine and i dont have any loss of power. Is there anyway I can clear the fault myself or find out what it thinks is wrong. I was in heavy rain just in case that might have caused a fault. Any ideas what normally goes wrong with these 406's regarding the engine managment light. Cheers Shayne

Seems to be a recurring problem on 406s. The manual says it can be due to either ignition coil problems or a catalytic converter issue.
I had it once on my Coupé V6 and the engine sounded strange. It was a faulty ignition coil.
I have had the light come on and off ever since and it is down to some stupid electrical fault. The car has absolutely no issue at all, but whenever the weather is a bit humid, the light comes on. Very annoying but that's Peugeot on-board electronics these days... Local dealer is unable to fix it of course!
