Help, My horn or lack of is driving me nuts!!! The horn activation on my 307 is becoming very intermittent, sometimes it will sometimes it won't. I'm guessing there is a switch under the steering wheel centre cover. But I'm wary of removing it because of the air bag. Does any one know if the air bag needs to be deactivated before removing this cover or not? What I'm getting at is, is this a diy job or a loadsamoney garage trip? Thanks

Well the joy of multiplexing. It could be a simple horn swicth in the wheel, if you can get at it, but basically the horn switch isnt connect to the horn at all. All the bits of the car, are on a network controlled by the ECU when you press the horn it tells the ECU to operate it. Bit like an office with loads of computers and printers, the printers are not physically connected to each computer. It cuts down on huge amounts of wires in the loom. Good luck.

Hi, Air bags can be incredibly dangerous things and although it's relatively easy to de-activate it if you're not really familier with them I'd have to recomend that you leave them well alone! The good news is that the problem is most likely to be an earth conection on the steering wheel, it shouldn't cost more than half an hour labour to put right but it is worth going to a dealer for this one.

I had an intermittent horn on my 307 a while ago. I decided to have a go at fixing it. I'd already got a Haynes manual, so after consulting that I began work. The worst bit was removing the centre console (by the handbrake) to get to the airbag control unit, once that was disconnected, the rest was simple. I found that the horn switch is a sprung loaded plastic frame that sits behind the airbag module. The plastic frame has 3 brass dimples on it. when depressed the dimples connect to a corresponding dimple housed in the steering wheel, hence making the connection. The dimples had just got misaligned. I realigned everything, which was simple, and now it's all sorted. One thing I will say if you have a go, keep a note where the wires are routed in the steering wheel, I suggest taking a digital photo before you take it all apart. Be brave have a go! RD
